Match types and random pairing

Say whether you are after a competitive, narrative or training game, and let the staff pair everyone who is left with one button.

When you sign up for a club night you say what you are bringing, not how you
want to play it. Two people with the same army can be after two very different
evenings though: a tournament list to test before Sunday, or a relaxed game to
learn the new rules. Now you can say which.

The match type field

The availability form has a new field, with three ready-made options:
Competitive, Narrative and Training.

It starts on whatever you picked last time, so if you only ever play narrative
you do not have to say it again every week. Leaving it empty is fine too, and
means you are up for anything.

The shorthand next to your name

Every row in the available-players list now carries its shorthand: Com, Nar,
Tra. The list is sorted more usefully as well: game system first, then match
type, then faction, then player name. Whoever is setting up the tables can see
at a glance which groups are there to be made.

Every club picks its own list

The three types ship with the platform and are translated for you. From the
Match types panel in the club admin you can switch off the ones your club does
not play and add your own, each with the shorthand you want. Games already
played keep their label even if the type is switched off later.

Random pairing

On the event page, next to "Pair a table", staff and owners now have a new
button. It opens a panel with three choices.

  • Game system. All of them at once, or just one if you want to sort the 40k
    tables out first.
  • Consider match type. On by default: only pair players who asked for the
    same kind of game.
  • Avoid rematches from the last N days. Seven by default, zero to skip the
    check.

Hit Apply randomization and the tables are all created at once.

Two things never bend. Nobody is ever paired with someone who does not share
their game system. And a recent rematch is only avoided while there is an
alternative: if nobody else is left to pair, the table happens anyway, because a
rematch beats an evening spent watching.

Whoever is left over, because the numbers are odd or because they are the only
one who asked for a given type, is named in the confirmation message. So you
know straight away who still needs a table by hand.

Nothing else changes: each created table sends its players the usual
notification, exactly like a hand-made pairing, and the match type stays on the
match itself, visible on the table card long after the night is over.
